DYSU #56 - Ribbon

Hey everyone!
Welcome to a new challenge at DYSU! This week is all about RIBBONS!!    If you are like me, then you have yards and yards of yummy ribbons in your stash, so, let’s take them out and give them some good use.

For this week we have four great sponsors:

The Ribbon Reel
(Which is owned by our FABULOUS new DT member, Keilly)

Well, onto my project....I didn't use A LOT of ribbon but, there is a little snippet on there:

The lovely image and sentiments are from the Tea-rrific and Made By clear stamp sets by The Greeting Farm.  The teacup image and "serving sweet friendship" sentiment are from Tea-rrific and the "made just for you" sentiment is from the Made By set.  Not only does the "made just for you" sentiment itself go GREAT with the Tea-rrific set, but, it is also in the same font..so it worked out PERFECTLY!

I used DP from the Echo Park Springtime 6x6 paper pad and paper-pieced the teacups.  The sentiment square was cut from PTI Rustic White cardstock using Spellbinders Classic Squares and then was sponged with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Spun Sugar.  To finish it all off, I added a little snippet of satin ribbon from Celebrations (Michaels) and lots of flatback pearls in white (2mm, 4mm, 5mm) from Pizzazz Aplenty!

Here is a close-up of the tiny pearls that I added to the paper-pieced teacups:

I used the current Viva la Verve sketch (January Week 3 VLVJAN2012):

Anyway, this is a pretty easy challenge for most of us and I look forward to seeing LOTS and LOTS of FABUOUS projects over at DYSU, this week...I hope YOURS will be one of them!

Paper and Such & Ribbon Carousel joint Challenge - Non-Traditional Colours

Hey Everyone!
It's time for another challenge over at Paper and Such and today we are teaming up with The Ribbon Carousel Challenge for a double challenge with twice as many chances to win!

This week, we want to see you use Non-Traditional colours...for instance, a Valentine's project without red or pink...or a Christmas card without red or green...you get the picture!  Of course, if you want to be eligible for the Ribbon Carousel Challenge, you also have to use something that comes on a spool such as twine or ribbon.

I made a Father's Day card using hot pink and charcoal grey...here it is:

This was a pretty CAS card for me...as CAS as it gets, actually!  I used the Paper and Such stamp set, Deer Dad which was designed by the ever-so-talented Iwona Palamountain aka. Chupa, with SU! Melon Mambo and Basic Grey Classic ink as well as some Pink Sorbet twine from the Twinery and a PTI button in Raspberry Fizz.  The base of the card was made with PTI Smokey Shadow and the front of the base was stamped with the Woodgrain background stamp from Market Street Stamps in Versamark to add a little more interest.

Anyway, I really hope you'll join in this week...at BOTH the Paper and Such Design Blog and The Ribbon Carousel Challenge Blog for TWO chances to win a Paper and Such Gift Certificate!

For this card, I used the following supplies:

Memoirs of a Geisha - TGF Customer Chit Chat & Challenge!

Hi Everyone!
I'm back with a card that I made for the TGF Customer Challenge & Chit Chat that began yesterday over at SCS.

The theme is "A Night at the Bookstore" and there are three challenge categories:

- Favourite Book (keywords: TGFCCN2, thegreetingfarm)
- Favourite Children's Book (keywords: TGFCCN3, thegreetingfarm)
- Favourite Book Turned Movie (keywords: TGFCCN4, thegreetingfarm)

If you haven't participated yet, there is still time!  The challenge closes at noon CST on Monday, January 23rd.  Just make a project that fits one of the categories above and upload it to your SCS gallery and use the corresponding keywords!

Well, now onto my card!

I am sure you can tell that my card was inspired by Memoirs of a Geisha (Favourite Book Turned Movie)...but, of course, the title of this post was also a dead giveaway, LOL.

I actually researched photos of real Geisha to make sure that I coloured my TGF Geisha Anya accurately.  I wanted to shade her skin but, since Geisha paint their face and neck white, I used warm greys (W0, W2) so as not to add skin colour but, also not have a cool undertone.  I used R20 and R22 for the eyeshadow.  It was my first time ever to colour black hair (C5, C7, C9) so...there were quite a few firsts for me on this project.  I also CAREFULLY free-handed some red lips (R27) because Geisha always have red lips.  That was a little nerve-racking because I had coloured the rest of her first and didn't want to start all over again!  I coloured the kimono and flower in her hair using BG70, BG72, BG 75, BG77, R22, R24, and R27.  I spent A LOT of time on the colouring this time and I'm quite happy with the results.

Other than the colouring, this card was SUPER simple.  It is difficult to tell in the photo, but, I used Japanese washi (paper) with gold flecks for the background.  I cut out a piece of white cardstock using Spellbinders Classic Ovals and cut-out a piece of the washi using the same die then glued it over top of the cardstock to give it strength as it's VERY thin and pliable.  I then stamped the small TGF Blush Heart on the washi using the retired Stampin' Up! Ruby Red Classic Stampin Pad.  Next, I mounted it over a piece of PTI Melon Berry cardstock which was cut-out with Spellbinders Beaded Ovals and then embellished it with 4mm Ivory Flatback Pearls from Pizzazz Aplenty.  I also embellished Geisha Anya's flower in her hair with 2mm Ivory Pearls from Pizzazz Aplenty.

Anyway, I hope you like what you see and I hope you'll come and join us over at the TGF SCS Forum for the Customer Challenge & Chit Chat.  There are three prizes up for grabs.  One for each category so, there will be three winners and each winner will get their choice of 1 TGF Clear Stamp Set!

I can't wait to see what you'll create!
